Traffic lights at the intersection of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie on 11 September
Traffic lights will go into operation at the intersection of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie on Friday, 11 September. At the same time, the temporary roundabout used during the construction phase will be removed.
The traffic lights at the intersection of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie will be switched on overnight during the night between Thursday and Friday, 10–11 September, and the intersection will become a four-way intersection. At the same time, Jokikatu will be opened as a one-way street in the direction from Viinikka towards the south, i.e. Hatanpää. The functioning of the traffic lights and the flow of traffic will be monitored after the change, and the traffic-light programming will be adjusted as needed.
The Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance of Tampere Tramway will continue the finishing works at the intersection of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie. The overhead wires will also be installed at a later stage.
Roundabout removed – changes to turning directions from Tampereen valtatie
Going forward, the junction of Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie will operate with the turning directions in line with the street plans and the situation that existed before construction began.
- Travelling north from Tampereen valtatie, from the direction of Hämeenpuisto towards the bus station, will take place via Vuolteenkatu.
- Travelling south from Tampereen valtatie, from the direction of Viinikka towards Hatanpää, will take place via Jokikatu.
- Most of the signal-controlled pedestrian and cycling crossings at the intersection will be opened. The pedestrian crossing over Hatanpään valtatie south of the intersection will be opened later in the autumn.
- With the traffic lights going into operation, the temporary traffic arrangement for merging lanes on Tampereen valtatie (the zipper/merge principle) will be removed.
- The through-traffic ban on Hatanpään valtatie between Tampereen valtatie and Lahdenperänkatu will remain in effect on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ban does not apply to public transport or access to properties.
Two-way traffic on Jokikatu will become possible later this autumn, when the Viinikanlahti bridge is completed. At that time, traffic lights will also be installed at the intersection of Jokikatu and Hatanpään valtatie.
The final traffic arrangements will be introduced along the entire tramway route during 2027. Passenger services between the Kaupin kampus and Ruotula stops, and between the Sorin aukio and Partola stops, will begin in August 2028.
