Main cycling routes directed to detours during the construction of the Pirkkala–Linnainmaa tramway
Due to the construction of the Tampere Tramway Pirkkala–Linnainmaa Alliance tramway, the regional main cycling routes have been marked with temporary cycling signs. The route change entered into force in February 2025 and applies to the regional main cycling routes between Tampere and Pirkkala, Lempäälä, Hervanta, Vuores and Kaukajärvi. For the first time, new continuity signs will also be used to guide cyclists.
The new recommended main route between the centre of Tampere and Pirkkala and Lempäälä runs along Suvantokatu and Ratinanraitti on Hatanpään valtatie. The route goes past the wastewater treatment plant and Hatanpää Hospital near the Pyhäjärvi shore and along Vihilahdenpolku.
Those cycling in the direction of Lempäälä are directed from Vihilahti along Haapakuja to Sarankulmankatu. Towards Pirkkala, the route continues through the park area in Rantaperkiö and Härmälä along the shoreline until the junction of Leirintäkatu and Nuolialantie.
Those cycling towards Hervanta, Vuores and Kaukajärvi are directed from the centre of Tampere through Sorinkatu towards Viinikka.

The cycling connection along Hatanpään valtatie, Tampereen valtatie and Nuolialantie will remain as it is and continue to serve cyclists in these areas. Temporary arrangements are in use on the route.

Continuity signs introduced for cycling in Tampere
The detours are marked with temporary yellow cycling signs. The numbers of regional main routes and the destinations of the routes are used in the signs to guide cyclists. For the first time in Tampere, continuity signs with a route identification number and an arrow symbol will also be included in cyclist information. The continuity signs are easy to read when cycling and help anticipate upcoming turns or side changes, for example. Continuity signs are already in use in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, for example, and they have proved to be a good solution.
